T-Minus 4 days and I'll be boarding a plane from St. Louis to Atlanta. From Atlanta I'll fly overnight to São Paulo, in the southern part of Brazil, and then from São Paulo I'll arrive in my destination city of Recife at 1:33pm local time (11:33 am CDT).
I couldn't be more excited. Naturally I'm also nervous, and your prayers are definitely appreciated.
A few things that have happened since I last updated you:
- Wednesday, 8/6 Randy (supervising missionary) helped me find an apartment for about half of what I though it was going to cost and it's furnished, to boot!
- Friday, 9/19-Monday, 9/22 I road tripped to Oklahoma to see all of the people I love and cherish there. It's important to me to say goodbye well. I also got my prosthetic leg checked and tweaked for the last time before I leave.
- Wednesday, 9/24 I received my visa (after much ado and delay!)
- Thursday, 9/25 I bought a one-way ticket. A ONE-WAY ticket. It just sounds so permanent
- Friday, 9/26, I've been cleaning out my room at my parents' and cleaned out my car to get it ready to sell.
- Tomorrow I will finish packing suitcases and my carry-on, and love on my sweet dog (who is old and probably won't make it through the winter)
- Sunday I will cherish a last bit of time with my blessed church family. I couldn't be who I am and where I am without them. They have moved mountains to support my efforts in Brazil and I couldn't be more grateful. I will also be spending the afternoon full of cake, ice cream, my family and my best friend for a send-off.
- TUESDAY, 9/30 I leave the United States for a duration of 2 years (with a small trip home at 1 year).
